Sorghum Festival, Blairsville, GA. 10/13

Mountain Freedom Festival

The Mountain Freedom Festival held on Sat. Sept. 17,  2-7pm at Meeks Park in Blairsville went extremely well as over 300 people came out to enjoy concerts, speeches, karoake, a live radio broadcast by 770AM WYHG, food and much more. All proceeds will go towards sending packages to our overseas troops.  The opening ceremony for the event began at 3pm with the posting of the colors by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Michelle Collins then sang the National Anthem. The Coalition's chaplain, Rev. Jim Geer gave the invocation and Commander Bob Woodstock from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Iraqi Freedom Veteran Chuck Honaker spoke. From then till five, the crowd enjoyed the booths, food and some great karoake. The evening program began with a speech by Union County Commissioner Lamar Paris. Kurtis Underwood then performed a concert followed by the Smokey Mountain Melodies. The Coalition's President concluded the event saying, "Our troops need to know that we support them. The best way to let them know that, is to send them the care packages. We've already sent twenty-five, but there is much work left to be done. We're going to keep on working, we're going to keep on supporting our troops, we're going to keep on sending those packages till the victory's won and they all come home!"

Sponsors for the event were:

United Community Bank, Ingles, Georgia Carolina Rentals, Mayfield, Busy Bee Printing, The Chamber of Commerce, and Zaxby's.

Others who helped were:
